ARTISTS MAKE ART
I think this one comes as close to my vision of an abstracted figure as I originally imagined. I thought it was finished but had to go back into it with a few descriptive lines.
To bring a hint of the figure back in. 10”x 8”, Mixed media on wood.

Artists Make Art
Are you uncomfortable referring to yourself as an artist?
Are you making art?
If you are making art, then you’re an artist. And you can legitimately call yourself an artist.
Artists make art!
This has nothing to do with quality or quantity. If you are actively engaged in some form of creativity on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, then you are an artist. Ideally, you would have a regular weekly creativity schedule, (if not daily). I find that the more I am drawing and painting, the more I feel like an honest to goodness artist.
Try it! Paint more often than you do right now. Then, after a couple of weeks, check in with yourself to see if you feel more like a true, authentic artist.
And, then, the next time someone asks you “What do you do?”, you can confidently proclaim that you are an artist.
And, then be prepared to answer the inevitable follow-up question, “What kind of art do you make?” (More on this next week).
Best,
David
