Nothing has helped me to achieve what I have set out to accomplish more than projecting confidence. Believing in myself, my talents and my abilities, especially when things get challenging or risky, has allowed me to put on my big-boy pants and tackle anything.
I am not talking about pretending to be confident. I am talking about thinking positive and actually believing that you can learn how to draw and paint, be an artist, set up a regular painting schedule and easily stick to it, come up with ideas, create things, take risks, tackle a challenging theme or subject matter, exhibit and sell your work, try a new technique, and get really good at your chosen medium and style.
I tell my students to confidently step up to their blank piece of paper or canvas and attack it as if they know exactly what they want to do. I tell them to visualize, as best as they can, what they want their drawing or painting to look like and then boldly head in that direction.
Things won’t go your way all the time. Left turns will present themselves.You will get a curve ball every once in awhile. You will be served a glass of sour lemonade from time to time. And you will create anyway.
By believing in yourself and projecting confidence, you will be in control and be able to achieve much more than you think you are capable of. Both in art and in life.
