SURVIVING MISTAKES
This is more like it. Now I am starting to get a relationship between abstraction and representation. © 2017 David Limrite

Surviving Mistakes
Mistakes. We have all made them. And we are going to make more. Especially if we are pushing ourselves, trying new things and taking risks. It could be mixing a bad color, designing a boring composition, drawing something out of proportion or overworking a painting.
So, you've made a mistake.
Or have you?
I really don’t think there is such a thing as a mistake. A mistake is only a mistake if you choose to leave it in your picture. Mistakes are just a part of the aesthetic layering in a painting.
Mistakes are actually opportunities. A mistake is an opportunity to choose, learn and grow. I learn way more from mistakes than you might think.
So, you have made a mistake.
Now what?
Don’t be defeated by a mistake. Take charge of your painting. Be a survivor.
Surviving mistakes is all about staying put and continuing to paint. And not letting that mistake shut you down. Get back up in the saddle. Surviving mistakes is not letting them get the better of you.
Embrace the mistake. Is it really a mistake or is it just that something has happened to the painting that you did not expect? And, is this unexpected thing that happened actually good for the painting? Or, might the mistake actually be even better than what you had intended.
Consider replacing the word “mistake” with the word “opportunity”.
And empower yourself.
Best,
David
